Colorado Trip...

So, I thought I would start a post where we can post our Colorado trip plans so we can Coordinate and Communicate what we all are doing!!

Betsy and I are getting in on Wednesday night around 5 p.m. We are leaving on Saturday at 2:50 p.m. The only thing we have set in stone for plans so far is the wedding (obviously) and then a Rockies game the next night on Friday at 7 p.m. in Denver. I know there was talk about doing a family trip to Pikes Peak, but I recently found out that Pikes Peak is around 2-3 hours outside of Denver. I had kind of wanted to check out Red Rocks State Park, do a tour of the Coors Brewery, possibly Coors Field, and also possibly Mike High. The US Mint is out, as there were no available spots for tours....sorry Staci!! My only concern with going to Pikes Peak is that we would probably not be able to do these other things. Let me know what you are all thinking!!

Awesome! i love communication! :>)

What's Mike High? And what's Coors Field?

Betsy said...

Staci- Jeff can't type, he meant Mile High. And it is the stadium where the Denver Broncos play. And Coors field is where the Rockies play. You really didn't think we would get out of this trip without sports did you????

Jeff said...

If you want to get technical, its Invesco Field at Mile High (not Mike). Anyways, what were your plans for the Pikes Peak excursion Staci?? Were you going to be staying the night in Co. Springs then, or were you going to come back to Denver?

Staci said...

I was actually thinking of just making a day of it - I am floored it takes that long to get down there! Hmmmm..... but in Co Springs you can also see Garden of the Gods and the Air Force academy......I don't know. I'm torn. Too much stuff to little time. And I'm mad about the U.S. Mint. Darnit! Maybe we should first be asked Amanda and Jay what (if any) plans they have for us to be places and when....

Jess said...

hahaha.... Can I go to Mike stadium, too?? :)
The Stratman RV will be arriving in Colorado Tuesday afternoon and rolling out Friday morning. Party at the campgrounds Wednesday night, anyone.... anyone?? ;)

Jeff said...

Staci, that sounds like a great idea about talking to Amanda and Jay about their plans. Has anyone heard anything from Kevin or Sara as to if they booked a room in Co Springs for Friday night?? I know they were thinking about that. I guess Betsy and I are torn on the whole Pikes Peak thing too, as it does take some time to get down there, and the fact we are supposed to get back to Denver for the Rockies game that night.

Jess - I thought only you were leaving on Friday?? Is everyone else leaving that day as well? Also, you said something about being able to pick Betsy and I up from the airport....do you think you could do that Wednesday night still? Then we will commence the partying at the campground!!

And for the record, the K is right next to the L on the keyboard!!

I have something coming up on the 9th...for some reason it seems REALLY important, but I can't seem to remember. Odd.

Hmmmm, red rocks is amazing, I highly recommend going. I prefer red rocks to garden of the Gods. They have lots of concerts and on occasion they have movie nights. Very cool. Coors brewery is a great tour, right in Golden and lots of cool places to eat after. LODO is fun also with lots of bars and breweries. We'll go there after/before the Rockies game for sure. The AFA is about a hour and a half away, depending on traffic. If you want to get over there I can easily sponsor everyone on. You can come to my kennels if you would like, I'd love nothing more than to put Dom in the thinest bite suit we have and watch him cry. Any takers? There is a very cool aquarium too, I think all the ladies and kids are going at least once.

If you're bored in Denver you have no one to blame but yourself.

Amanda said...

Tuesday night is a Rockies game...Jay's uncle can get some additional tickets, so if anyone else (Mark, Will and Kevin??) wants to go, let me or Jay know. They probably won't be right next to the original 4 seats that he got, but you would still be able to go. Jess, mom, Eli, Makayla and I will probably be headed to the aquarium in Denver while the 'boys' are at the game, so anyone interested in the aquarium can come as well.

Wednesday night there will be pizza and beverages (with a pool and hot tub)at the Quality Suites in Golden for anyone that would like to take part.

I will echo Jay's advice...Red Rocks is very cool (hence the utterly fabulous and awesome pictures you all saw of Jay and I :-). And if you come to CO without going to the Coors Brewery, you will be very disappointed.

Jeff said...

Amanda,

What time is the thing Wednesday night?? Betsy and I are supposed to get in around 5 or so.....

Amanda said...

Jeff,
We have reserved the conference room at the hotel from 6-10 Wednesday night, so if you want to come, you are welcome to show up anytime. We probably won't order the pizzas until about 7 though. I'm sure you all won't be up to Golden until around then anyway depending on the traffic and getting your luggage (if you are checking any bags)...etc. It may last longer then 10, but it will probably move to someone's room after that. Or maybe the RV park :-)

Jay said...

The family that parties at the RV park together, stays together!!!

Or fights each other and ends up going to jail on drunk in public charges. Either way....

Jeff said...

You know a good family member will bail you out of jail, but the best family member will be in there with you saying, "Damn, we messed up!" :)

Jay said...

Why Jeff you sound as Irish as me....lol

Joleen said...

Jeff,
Maybe you want to check with grandma to see if she'd like to do the brewery tour; hopefully her knee will improve after her shot now. If so, Thursday late morning would be a good time for that.

Jeff said...

Does anyone know if you can get tickets for the Brewery tour ahead of time?? I might get the tickets for the Coors Field tour ahead of time, and if we decide to do Mile High too.

I will be sure to ask Grandma if she would like to go....are you sure you want us drinking before the wedding Joleen??

Betsy Parr said...

Joleen, he's kidding... he knows that there is not a chance he will be drinking before the wedding. He can just keep on dreaming =)

Jay said...

Jeff, I don't know how the stadium tours work. If you need tickets, where to get them, or when they are. All the brewery tours I know of are free. They are usually on the hour, you just show up. The Budweiser tour has a bar in the waiting area and the Coors tour only has a bar at the end of the tour.

Jeff said...

Thanks for the info Jay. I know I can get advance tickets for the stadium tours, it'll just be when we want to do them.

Betsy Parr said...

I wanna go horseback riding through the mountains... who's with me?

Joleen said...

If there's time Thursday morning I'd love to do the horse thing!

Jay said...

The AFA rents horses. I don't know how it works for civilians, but I can check to see if I can rent them.......and watch you all get attacked by mountain lions.

Betsy Parr said...

Thanx for the jinx Jay!!! Idk if we will even have time to do it, but I would love it. I haven't ridden a horse since a stupid mare sprained my wrist and thumb. Def check into it if you get a chance though. Thanx =)

Staci said...

I talked to Mark last night and he is very geeked about going to Pikes Peak, so I called Amanda yesterday to ask if she really thought it would take all day. She didn't think so...so how about horseback riding with Betsy Thursday morning, Coors brewery tour right after lunch, then back to hotels to get ready for the wedding (which isn't until 6:30). Friday head down to Pikes early and we can be back in plenty of time for the ballgame.

where are Kevin and Sara in all this????

Staci said...

Oh, and by the way, The Stenders are leaving for Northern MN for a week with Mark's sister starting Saturday AM, so if you don't hear from us all week, that's why....

Betsy Parr said...

I found a website for a stable right by Golden that does trail rides. Since I am an experienced rider I would like to just take a horse and go for a run through the mts, but I know that's not something any stable will allow me to do =( Anyways, this place is $35 for 1 hour, or $50 for an hour and a half. It looks like a pretty nice ride. And Staci, they offer riding double with an experienced rider if your younger kids are nervous (it doesn't say if there is an extra charge for it). And I'm not sure how experienced any of you are, but you WILL smell like a horse barn after the ride. So if we decide to go, please schedule in time to shower after. I don't want to smell you at the wedding =) Here's their website:

http://www.bearcreekranchcolorado.com/stable.htm

As far as Pike's Peak is concerned, I think Jeff and I are going to opt out. We have both been to Colorado Springs and there are other things we would like to get in on Friday. It is really pretty there though, so I know you will like it.

Staci said...

If we play our cards right, it's possible Mark and I could take the kids down there Wednesday during the day - that way we can still do stuff together on Friday. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. :>)

Jeff said...

Betsy and I just got our tickets for the Coors Field tour on Friday morning at 10 a.m. You guys are more then welcome to come with to see it. Then maybe go eat lunch and walk around DT Denver for a little. I thought we would go check out Red Rocks in the afternoon then before we go to the ball game.

Jeff said...

Here is the link for the Coors Field tour: Coors Field Tours

Betsy Parr said...

So as far as the horseback riding goes we will need to call to make reservations as soon as possible. I know Jeff and I are going, but I really don't know beyond that. Also, anyone under 8 yrs old must ride with one of their experienced wranglers, so let me know if youngsters are going so I can let them know that too. I was thinking an hour ride would be plenty. They open at 9am so I though around 10am would be a good time to go. Let me know how many are going so I can make arrangements =)

Sara said...

Kevin and I are leaving on Tuesday and plan to be in Golden sometime Wed morning. We will be there for the pizza and possible RV party on Wed night. We are staying at the Days Inn in Golden on Wed and Thurs night and got a room for Ruth for Wed night. We really want to do the Coors brewery tour sometime while we're in Golden, don't really care when. We won't be doing the horseback riding thing since I haven't ridden a horse since I was 4 on our farm and I don't think that counts! Kevin is not interested in any stadium tours. We are planning on leaving for Co Springs on Friday morning to try to hook up with a former basketball player of mine and see Pike's Peak and then drive home from Co Springs on Sat.

Staci said...

We are back in Dubuque. At this point, I am thinking I will ask Mark again about horseback riding Thursday morning. Could we all do the brewery tour together? Maybe early Thursday afternoon? The wedding isn't until 6:30 and Amanda said it only takes about an hour....
Mark and I are not interested in touring any fields either - but are still thinking of Pikes Peak on Friday.....

Betsy Parr said...

I like it... I would like to be done with the brewery tour by around 3, so that I can get a nap in before the wedding. Let me know as soon as you can how many I should estimate so I can call. Right now I think it is Jeff and I, Jolene (don't know about Ken), and possibly Staci and her family. Let me know if I'm missing anyone.

Betsy Parr said...

I realized my message was not clear... I am estimating the number of people for the horseback riding. I'm pretty sure there are more for the tour.

Jeff said...

Two of Amanda's friends are going to be joining us for the riding and Coors Tour.

Sara said...

The brewery tour on Thursday afternoon sounds great. I have still not heard from my basketball player if Friday or Sat works better for her for Pike's Peak so I would not count on us for that.

Betsy Parr said...

Sara... the basketball player you're talking about isn't named Stacey is she???

Sara said...

Nope - Jesika Schomberg. You might know her cuz I believe she goes to your church. She has a job at a dude ranch from the day after school ended til a week before school starts. I thought it would be neat to see her in CO since I wouldn't get to otherwise. She's a good friend of Shannon's too. So who is Stacey?

Staci said...

Besides me, that is. And she spells it wrong, :>)

Betsy Parr said...

Stacy Schomburg (not sure if they spell it with a u or an e, and I think she got married recently so that's not her last name anymore). She would have graduated somewhere around 98 I think. She used to babysit me and now she lives in Denver. Yes I know Jessika, didn't know she was in CO though. I used to babysit her and her little bro and sis.

Staci- do you know if you guys are coming riding/ how many are coming with? Also, lemme know if any are under 8. Thanx =)

Staci said...

Betsy, please put down six for an hour's ride. All of us are 8 or over and all the girls have ridden before. This will be Mark's first time - which should provide entertainment. This is Thursday Am at what time? And do we have to sign up for the brewery tour, or just show up? Want to make sure we have to do both before the wedding.

We are taking off tomorrow, so the sooner you can let me know the better. My cell phone # is 563-557-9252 if you need to talk after that. Do you guys have rides to and from the airport?

Staci said...

Hey Amanda, not to freak you out, but I'm leaving in the morning to come to your wedding......

Betsy Parr said...

Ok thanx Staci. I will be calling in the morning to set up the riding. They open at 9 so I was thinking an hour ride at 10am would put us right in time for lunch and the brewery tour shortly after. Really not sure if we need appts for the tour, Jeff was heading up that dept. The website says they are free and run from 10am-4pm, and one CO tourism website says that they are self-guided tours with audio equipment(??) So that is my thoughts. And I figured that the brewery isn't really going to smell much better than the horses, so we might as well go right there and shower after both. I'm not 100% sure that rides to and from the hotel are arranged, also Jeffrey's dept. We will need a ride to Enterprise in Golden sometime after 12 on Thursday though. If we could count on you for that ride, that would be great. If I don't see a post in reply I will assume you didn't get a chance to check the site and I will call your cell tomorrow afternoon... I have to go see my new nephew again in the morning =)

So, I just plugged our hotel, the ranch, and the brewery addresses into Google Maps and this will work out pretty well (we're at the Holiday Inn in Golden). Its about 10min from our hotel to the ranch and then we have to go back, nearly right past our hotel to get to the brewery. Right across from our hotel is CO Mills, which is a retail center. That would be a good option to hit up for lunch. Plus, we have to nearly go right past the Enterprise location there. It couldn't work out any better if we tried!!!

Amanda said...

Staci...nope, not freaking me out at all. In fact, I'm thinking it's about time... :-) Safe travels...give me a call when you get into town.

As for the brewery tour...I don't know if it is the same, but the last time I went, you show up, and they give you 'tickets' (which are labels from all the different beers they make). Then you sit and wait until they call your group. Depending on how busy it is, you may have to wait a while or you may get in right away. They also had tour guides that took you around, but again, that could have changed by now.

Jay said...

Yeah, unless the brewery tours have changed they are not self guided and they do not require prior notice. Just show up like Amanda said at the appropriate time. Also if anyone needs a GPS or anything let me know, you can use mine anytime you want. Travel safe, see you soon.

Staci said...

Okay, last check of the web before we leave town. Betsy, all that sounds great and we can take you to Enterprise at noon Thursday. Just be sure to let them know we have a few inexperienced riders along. :>)

Can't wait to see you all! Road trip!

Betsy Parr said...

Ok, just called and made our reservation for the horseback riding. There is a total of 10 going on the trail ride: me, Jeff, Staci, Mark, their 4 kids, and Amanda's 2 friends. I also booked one 30 min pony ride for Jolene and Eliana. So we should be all set to go with that now =) Fair warning to the inexperienced: saddles will rub your legs raw very quickly!!! Pants, or at least capris, are what I recommend. Also, he didn't specifically say this when I talked to him, but some stables require that you have on closed-toe shoes (ie- no sandals, flip flops, or crocs). I don't think that Staci is going to have internet capabilities so I will get ahold of her to let her know these details.
